Roi Soleil [golden]
I’m beyond excitement to share this new mirror that I recently created. The sun and the moon have always had a major importance in my life, so it’s all naturally that I’m trying to recreate them, as to give them tribute and glory. Roi Soleil is named after Louis XIV, the French King. I’ve always found the appellation amusing, and can get quite inspired by the *all shiny* atmosphere of Versailles and other castles.
For me home is a sanctuary, a sacred place where we are safe and free to express ourselves fully, so at my home, personal expression is everywhere; on walls, but even on the ceiling. I have many mirrors, but mostly small ones, not even at my eyes’ level, just here to shine and create this mystic atmosphere.
Mirrors are very particular and magical. Seeing our reflect has became so common, when it is actually not a minor thing. Sometimes I wonder how would be life –or how life was– back then, when the closest thing to the reflect of our image was in the water of a fountain or a lake. What a powerful thing it would be then, to only look at ourselves once in a while, always only the head down.
Roi Soleil is handmade by me, with thread from a small family business in Poland. The whole piece has a diameter of approximately 29cm. I knotted an extra thread so it’s easy to hang on the wall with a pin (see last photos), but of course you can use 3M double sided tape if you prefer. I will make variations in other colours, threads and sizes – I’m also happy to take custom orders if you have specifics in mind!
